“Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.” — Oprah Winfrey
Happy Friendship Day!! This is the first year that I actually noticed there was even such a thing as “Friendship Day” (thank you twitter trends lol). I think it’s important to give thanks to the loyal friends we have in our lives and so I hope this posts will inspire you to thank and appreciate the amazing friends you all have that likely shape your life more than you know.
My dad once gave me some advice when I was in high school and he had noticed that I have surrounded myself with some bad influences. It’s something that always stayed with me… and gosh I wish I would have listened to him more back then! Since he said this to me in Farsi I will have to translate it to English (so it may be a little bit lost in translation) but I hope the meaning is still intact:
The context of which he said this quote was when I was trying to argue with him that I can hang around whoever I want because I am a strong enough individual who will not be affected by bad people around me (at the time I thought I was making a really good argument lol).
To which he replied:
“It doesn’t matter who you are or how strong you are, if you stand next to garbage long enough, guess what? you are gonna start to smell.”
BAM- I mean BAM!!! that right there was not something I could argue with. He was right and as usual I should have paid more attention to it! nonetheless it’s never EVER too late 🙂
So yes! I use to be blind to how bad friends can really effect you. With age (luckily) comes greater wisdom and it gets easier to cut out the people who are negative in your life. One of the best things I ever did for myself in the last couple of years is just that; cut out bad friends and those who bring jealousy, gossip or negativity in your life. And guess what? it’s been WONDERFUL! I can honestly say I have never been happier with the friendships I have today new & old, I could not be more grateful!
I have friends who not only support me but give me the strength to follow my dreams when I am ready to give-up.
I have friends who have shown me tremendous support when it comes to my blog:
I have friends who from half way around the world- send me a special edition book about a blog post I wrote on my fav. film:
I have friends who have been there for me since elementary school who know me better than anyone else:
I have my confidant from high school, who motivates me in all things life:
I have a friend who I consider my little sister who I know loves and supports me:
I have a neighbour who has surprised me with his kindness and reassured my trust in making new friends:
I have a crew of girls from TO and Vancouver who made my last birthday the best I have ever had in Vegas:
I have a friend who I can count on at work and at Irish events 😉
And finally, I have my best friend who I know I can call anytime and will be there for me:
Best of all I have friends who have great hearts and give me nothing but positive energy!
Happy Friendship day guys! I hope you all have great friends around you and be grateful for them!
