One of my all time favorite skincare companies is L’Occitane en Provence because of their all organic products and the incredible success story of their business. Commonly known as L’Occitane the company started in the South of France by 23 year old Oliver Baussan with the purpose to distribute his provinces agricultural goods (essential oils from fields of lavender) around the world. He did just that in 1976 as he loaded up his truck with distills of Rosemary essential oils and started selling them in the local markets of Provence. With the revenue he was able to obtain, he started small productions of Soap and Foaming baths and by 1981 the first L’Occitane store opened in Volx, Provence. There after larger orders were being shipped out to smaller stores and their product gained popularity and the rest is history:
1992- The first L’OCCITANE boutique opens in Paris on Rue Vavin.
1996- L’OCCITANE boutiques open in New York City and Hong Kong.
1997- As a sensorial brand, L’OCCITANE is one of the first companies to feature Braille labeling on its products.
1997- L’OCCITANE opens its first boutique in Japan.
1999-The verbena harvest collection launches.
2001- L’OCCITANE partners with ORBIS, an international NGO that fights blindness.
2001- The first L’OCCITANE Spa opens in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
2002- International launch of the Immortelle Skincare Collection.
2006- The L’OCCITANE Foundation is created with two long-term missions: the support of the blind and the economic emancipation of women.
2009- In order to benefit both our customers and the environment, L’OCCITANE begins to offer eco-refill packaging.
2010- The L’OCCITANE Foundation partners with Aide et Action to support women’s literacy centers in Burkina Faso.
2011- Immortelle Divine Cream receives the “Best Miracle Cream” award following user trials organized by the Anti-Aging Beauty Bible.
2011- Our online magazine, Fantastic Provence, is launched in order to promote the knowledge and love of the south of France.
2012- L’OCCITANE now has over 2,000 stores all over the world!
I love the story that this company has, as it displays that if you work hard and stay true to your vision, success will follow. Aside from their authenticity and organically driven products, I value and respect their efforts to give back to the community.
Their products are literally some of the best in the market and every season their is always something new! As for me, I spend a lot of time (and money) at their store because I love to go around and try new product samples! it really feels like going to a spa. They have product for both men and women so it makes for an excellent gift idea! Here are some of my favourites!
