Artist Spotlight: Tourist

Hello Everyone!

It’s Wednesday Artist Spotlight and I am here to hopefully give you all a little midweek break by introducing another one of my new favorite indie acts: Tourist a.k.a William Philips.

Philips has actually worked with some well-known artists like Sam Smith on his breakthrough song “Stay With Me”, which received six Grammy nominations and a win for Philips having co-written the song.

This past summer under the name Tourist he has released some dance tracks that are heavily influenced by UK garage, Vocal house and some good old Gospel. He is definitely one of the best new acts coming out of the UK and an artist who stays true to his craft and is honest about his work so much so that he scratched an entire album from being released when it simply didn’t sit right with him.

Shortly after the Grammies Philips encountered ever growing pressure to release an album and he quickly began to produce and nearly finish one for release. After having a sudden realization that he didn’t want to put out songs “just to have them exist” he pulled the plug on the entire album, went back to the drawing boards and started all over again. If that’s not dedication and honesty to your craft, I don’t know what it.

Anyways, Not to worry though, from what I can see from his recent Facebook posts his latest album is complete and on it’s way!

  1. Just listened to, ” I can’t keep up ” . . . thank you for sharing! I love indie artists, but it’s been a while since i’ve actually explored new song and artists since I’ve been SO hooked to some EDM albums that recently dropped. I’m gonna dive in and listen to a few more Tourist songs, and maybe even have an updated playlist soon! yay!
