Hello my awesome readers,
Happy Super Soul Sunday! Do you have something you need to get done? Perhaps even a goal you lose motivation for from time to time?
So much of our success depends on our environment and the people we surround ourselves with.
Who is around you right now? Where do you seek advice? Who inspires you? More importantly, who is pushing you out of your comfort zone AND how are you responding to it?
It’s not always easy to be surrounded by superhero type personalities but I think it’s highly influential in your self progression. Personally, I’ve struggled on occasion with the majority of my family members being intense super achievers. From doctors to lawyers to professors and mostly engineers, I sometimes think I’ve not lived up to the expectations set out for me, or at least not yet.
But everyone has their own journey and that’s certainly something to keep in mind. We don’t all find what our life calling is at an early age and those who do are very Lucky. I guess the hardest part is the search and it can be demotiving at times. That’s why it’s important to be surrounded by people who have high expectations for life because it’s somehow contagious and it keeps your standards just as high.
A lot of my friends are beyond passionate about the work they are doing and that, in and of itself, is inspiring to be around. When I hear the stories about my friends succeeding in their startup companies that are literally changing the world as we know it, I am just in awe. But also my friends who have moved overseas taking on huge career risks to challenge themselves. Some even going back to school for their masters or Ph.D.’s, it truly sets the bar high for my own expectations in life. It also serves as a reminder to never settle. Ever.
Beyond being surrounded by the thinkers, dreamers and doers, it’s important to have them support your journey and raise you up when you are feeling down about yourself. It’s those times that I’m ever more grateful to have such humble company around me. I hope that you all have the same and if you don’t…start expanding your circles till you find them!
Finally I will leave you with this quote from author Edmund Lee who once brilliantly said it best:
“Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and the thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself.”
