Trend Alert: Tortoiseshell Hair Colour!

Hello my amazing readers,

With Spring right around the corner, some of you might be looking to switch up your hairstyle and if so; this is a good read for you!

I will be the first to admit that last year, I went a little overboard with changing my hair color and managed to fully damage my hair by going platinum blond. Although being a full blond was super fun for a minute, the maintenance was just far too exhausting. I spent more time at the hair salon than I did with any ‘one’ of my friends in a given month (lesson learned: don’t defy nature to that extent, instead work with it).

Since last Summer, I have slowly but surely been building back my hair strength with natural deep conditioning masks. But I also wanted to stay away from dying my hair so much and started looking for hairstyles that would work with my natural hair color.

That’s when I came across the hair trend “Tortoiseshell”, which I would consider a branch of the Ombre hairstyle, I was excited!! I am currently trying it out and I can already tell you that my hair condition has improved a lot. While I still get my roots done, leaving the bleach out of the top of my head has been wonderful!

With darker roots and just a few streaks of highlights at the ends of my hair, Tortoiseshell is one low maintenance hair trend that I plan on sticking to!

Here are some example of what this trend looks like:

I darkened my hair but it made me look too pale. Also had highlights put in twice. Funny to look back.

You know what Alex, that was my biggest worry about darkening my hair. I have very fair skin and a couple shades too dark will make me look gothic.

  6. I can totally relate – went super blonde for years and it was such a hassle! Ombre was my ticket back to natural and looks like tortoise is a continuation of that. Makes having healthy hair way easier.
